Symbol Overlay

AAC pictogram symbols above words — on any website, instantly.

What is Symbol Overlay?

Symbol Overlay places small pictogram images above words on the current page using the ARASAAC symbol library — the same open symbol set used in many AAC apps. Words that have a matching symbol show it above the text; words without a symbol show nothing, so the page remains readable.

This feature is built for AAC users and the people who support them. It means any website — news, a government form, a school page — can display familiar symbols without any changes from the site's authors.

Enabling Symbol Overlay

    Click the ClearPath icon in your toolbar to open the popup.

    Toggle Symbol Overlay on.

  3. 3

    Symbols will appear above supported words on the current page immediately.

    To turn it off, toggle it off in the popup, or press Alt + S.

Settings

Symbol size

Small, medium, or large — choose what works for the screen and the user.

Symbol set

ARASAAC colour symbols (default). More sets may be added in future versions.

Per-site memory

ClearPath remembers whether Symbol Overlay was on or off for each site you visit.

About ARASAAC

ClearPath uses symbols from the ARASAAC (Aragonese Portal of Augmentative and Alternative Communication) library — an open symbol set maintained by the Government of Aragon, Spain. The symbols are free to use under a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence.
